Meezer Bun Bro’s Rule

Oh yea… oh yea… right there… It’s good to be the bun!

Celebrating the Freedom to Read

What other’s have had to say about banning books & censorship

“We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
— John F. Kennedy

“Don’t join the book burners. Don’t think you are going to conceal thoughts by concealing evidence that they ever existed.”
— Dwight D. Eisenhower, speech at Dartmouth College, June 14, 1953

“If all printers were determined not to print anything till they were sure it would offend nobody, there would be very little printed.”
— Benjamin Franklin, 1730

“I cannot and will not cut my conscience to fit this year’s fashions.”
— Lillian Hellman, subpoenaed to appear before the House Un-American Activities Committee, 1952

“All these people talk so eloquently about getting back to good old-fashioned values. Well, as an old poop I can remember back to when we had those old-fashioned values, and I say let’s get back to the good old-fashioned First Amendment of the good old-fashioned Constitution of the United States — and to hell with the censors! Give me knowledge or give me death!”
— Kurt Vonnegut, author

“The dirtiest book of all is the expurgated book.”
— Walt Whitman

“An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all.”
— Oscar Wilde

  2. Orlando, you’ve got it made, dude…

Isn’t it strange how today’s politicians don’t speak out in favor of free speech the way Ike and JFK did?

  3. I am jealous. I think it’s better to be a bun than a cat! Even a Meeze!

All presidents and every elected official should speak out the way JFK and Ike did. There is nothing more fundamental than the freedom of expression sigh.

I’m going to have a bit of nip in honor of Kurt…

  5. I’m not sure. I rather like to be a cat. Our staff thinks it’s unbelievable that censorship is even out on the table again. But they think a lot of things happening these days are pretty unbelievable. I am glad I am a cat!

  14. It is very, very good to be a bun — as long as you stay rubbing the head. Bun Rule #85 — do not go lower than the back!
