10 steps back

Dude… it’s called separation of church and state!

Not the republican version of church and state, not the white, judeo-christian version of church and state, not anyone’s version of church and state… it’s called separation of church and state.  To be honest, I don’t care what religious practices people observe as long as they don’t force it on my government. If you like religious fanaticism and a church run government, move there – pick another country – there are several.  Just leave me and my separation of church and state alone.

Just to remind Mr. McCain… It’s called the First Amendment.  He may want to read that constitution thing again.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I just can’t even type more

  1. “…who has a solid grounding in [the Christian] faith…”

Even if I didn’t shrink from his BS doctrinal opinion, the backhanded slam against Obama is just unconscionable.

  3. Just another reason for you and everyone you know to get out and actually vote this election… and not just blindly vote along party lines, but maybe, oh, I don’t know, vote for someone different, maybe? *cough*libertarian*cough*

Or we could just let our buns take over the world. I’m sure they’d to a fair better job of running it than we did (though I don’t know how I’d feel about the whole “totally vegetarian” thing…).

  4. Bush’s complete and utter disregard for our constitution (as he violates it daily) was bound to trickle downstream to Mcain = Bush’s third term.

  7. This oountry is disgusting in their treatment of the Constitution. You know…the thing that is supposed to govern our country. Makes the LL sick too.

  10. I’m totally with you. I used to get so angry with my church friends (back when I went to church) that said that the First Amendment guaranteed freedom OF religion, not FROM religion. They were pretty much convinced it was all right to cram their brand of faith down everyone’s throat by any and all means, including passing laws to do it.

    Ugh.

  11. Oh, where to start. First, mom couldn’t watch it all, she was too busy gagging. Two, gotta love all those people who talk about Christian values then slam gays, lesbians, and anybody different than themselves. Third, the reason GW got elected was JAYSUS!. Gotta have the correct pronunciation there. Because he followed JAYSUS everyone figured he was a good guy. WRONG! If you can’t be open about your religious beliefs, then how can you be open about anything else. McCain is slime, there is no two ways about it. Bush is a lying piece of hog wash and between the two of them we are going to hell in a handbasket. Don’t even get mom started about Bush and the blatant disregard for the constitution and the 3 branches of government. Drat, now she’s all fired up and has to go hit something. good thing her class is tonight.

  12. I really really find this reprehensible. Does anyone know why this country was founded? Do they not understand that although the Puritans who originally settled this area were very fundamentalist Christian, they were running from persecution and the founders of our country were so well aware of that they did everything they could to stop that same religious intolerance from happening here?!

And oh I really, really hate it when conservatives tell me if I don’t like I can move to another country. Thank you. This is MY country and MY Constitution and it gives me the freedom to worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster if I want to (or even just myself).

  14. We can’t even hear what he’s saying because the sound doesn’t work on this computer, but we’re still mad! :0

  15. ???? Mum is spitting mad right now. He is implying that his faith, i.e. is better than some other faith? Aren’t both he and Obama Christian. So what if one is Methodist and one is Baptist or whatever? Duh. I thought this got put to rest 48 years ago when Kennedy was elected and was a Roman Catholic.

I don’t care what religion a person is as long as they operate in an honest and ethical manner. Period!
