Do I look like a chicken to you?

Organic Garbage Disposal

“You may think you’re looking at rabbits. But according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), you’re looking at chickens. And chickens, says the USDA, are not really animals.”

What’s in a Name?

In the name of progress
Jews were ejected from their homes and exterminated
Africans were stolen from their homeland and enslaved
Native Americans were pushed off their land and massacred

In the name of conservation
Feral animals are ejected from our homes and exterminated
Endangered species are stolen from their homeland and enslaved
Predators are pushed off the land and massacred

In the name of freedom
Dissenters were beaten into submission
Japanese Americans were imprisoned in concentration camps
Soldiers were trained to kill on command

In the name of entertainment
Orangs and elephants are beaten into submission
Dolphins and seals are imprisoned in sea aquariums
Dogs and roosters are taught to lust for blood

In the name of religion
Witches were burned at the stake
Infidels were tortured on the rack
Virgins were sacrificed on the altar

In the name of science
The bodies of pigs are inflicted with severe burns
The eyes of rabbits are filled with caustic chemicals
The eyelids of newborn monkeys are sewn shut

In the name of arrogance
Humans have put their desires over the needs of others
Crimes of cruelty have been perpetrated ad nauseum
Suffering has been inflicted against human and animal, alike

  2. Yeah, they know if they go on record as approving the torture of bunnies they’ll get a ton of negative publicity. So now chickens have fur and big ears. Right.

Arrogance says it all – it’s so sad what humans have inflicted on other beings.

  7. You are NOT a chicken! It is horrifying to contemplate the cruelties humans visit upon one another and upon those over whom they hold stewardship. I wish..well, I just wish.

  11. Yeah, I have to admit that’s a big part of why I’m mostly vegan. I don’t snub food offered to me, ie. if meat is served by a friend at their house, that’s just rude. But, yeah, I hate all that B.S. too. Makes me sad. hugs!

  14. Thank you for the information. I’m sickened and yet not surprised by this. This is why I’m vegetarian and the few eggs that I eat come from a local farm where I have greater confidence in how they live.

  15. Very interesting and thought-provoking post. We had no idea rabbits are classed as chickens.

And that poem — unfortunately, it’s too true.
